Privacy & confidentiality
What is collected, why, who can ever see it, and the narrow circumstances in which the law requires disclosure.
Who this covers
Teal Elephant Counselling Inc. is operated by Jae Yoo, M.Ed., CCC-CCS (CCC-CCS #3112), a Canadian Certified Counsellor and Certified Clinical Supervisor practising in Abbotsford, British Columbia. This page covers both visitors to this website and people receiving counselling or supervision.
This website
This site has no contact form, no account system, no newsletter and no payment processing. It does not set advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not build a profile of you. Contact links open your own phone, messaging or email application — nothing is submitted to this site.
Standard server logs may record technical information such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, for security and reliability purposes only.
Clinical information
When you become a client, I collect only what is needed to provide safe and competent care: contact details, relevant health and background information, session notes, and where applicable insurance or funding-program details for billing.
Records are stored securely and are retained in line with professional standards for Canadian Certified Counsellors. You may request access to your own records, and you may ask for corrections to factual errors.
Confidentiality and its legal limits
What you say in session stays in session. There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions where I am required to disclose information, with or without your consent:
- There is a serious and imminent risk of harm to you or to another identifiable person.
- There is reason to believe a child or a vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected, which triggers a duty to report.
- Records are subpoenaed or otherwise ordered disclosed by a court.
- Disclosure is required as part of professional oversight, such as a regulatory complaint or clinical supervision, where identifying details are minimized.
These limits are explained again in the informed consent form you review before your first session.
Third parties
Where you ask me to bill an insurer or a funded program directly, I share the minimum information that provider requires — typically your name, dates of service and the service code. Clinical content is not shared.
